Jim Grillo, NBC5 Street Team
As far as I am concerned, the jury is still out whether Chicago could handle hosting the 2016 Olympics. However, I came one step closer to “believing” after experiencing the NIKE 10k Human Race with 13, 000 others at Soldier Field on Sunday. The outside portion of the event was actually produced by Meetinghouse Companies who did a spectacular job with the event production. It was extremely well laid out for event flow and traffic. You never once thought that you were “crowded” or “trapped” in a sea of people. Everyone knew exactly where to go whether you were a runner, press or attendee. Meetinghouse Companies should be considered when the Olympic Committee chooses an event production team!
I happened to be there as press with fellow NBC 5 Chicago Street Team members, Jen Knoedl, Theresa Carter and Cara Carriveau. My main responsibility of the day was to video tape Cara Carriveau as she moderated the Fall Out Boy Press Conference as well as her intro of Fall Out Boy for the concert portion. I ended up also helping Jen Knoedl with her filming as well. Both videos will be posted by Cara and Jen in a future post.
So…Fall Out Boy – here is the scoop: A Chicagoan has to be proud to have these young, humble rockers as a claim to fame. These guys had 13,000 kids screaming for more. Prior to the concert, they held a press conference which showed their humble youth which brought out the endearing quality that accompanies rock and roll. Fame caught up with them, but, not too quick to remember their Chicago roots. It was a pleasure to see and hear them as they played with the crowd as if it was their 1st concert. Hats off to Fall Out Boy!
It was also nice to run into Bill Rancic of “The Apprentice” and wife Giuliana Rancic of E! Entertainment. They both seemed genuinely happy to be a part of this spectacular event! They both actually ran in the race to show true support! To the both of you “You’re HIRED!”
Nike’s first global race brought together the power of sport and music to inspire and connect runners from every corner of the world. According to Nike, The Nike Human Race was the world’s biggest one-day running event, bringing together the power of sport and music to inspire and connect runners from every corner of the planet.
