The other day while we were checking out the inventory at West Loop sneaker and urban wear store Self Conscious, it appeared like a mirage in the desert — a pair of the much-coveted Air Yeezys, perched on the back wall. It was like an Elvis sighting. Who the heck knew there was an unclaimed Yeezy out there?

The Air Yeezy, designed by Kanye West, has been on every sneakerheads must-have list for months. When the Black Yeezy was released earlier this month, folks slept outside of Niketown on Michigan Ave. to snap up a limited pair of Yeezy’s. The shoe completely flew off the shelves within hours of its release, and soon after there were bids upwards of $1,000 for the Yeezys on eBay.

It was a thrill to bring Fall Out Boy onstage at Soldier Field last Sunday after the Nike+ Human Race. Prior to the race I had the priviledge of moderating their press conference. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look courtesy of fellow street team member Jim Grillo (you’ll also see fellow street team member Jen Knoedl ask the first question):

Fall Out Boy was quoted from this press conference in The RedEye earlier this week. In the video above you were clearly hear that I was the “reporter” who asked the question covered in the article that appeared in The RedEye on 9-2-08:

Fall Out from Nike+ race
Fall Out Boy performed an exclusive concert on Sunday night at Soldier Field for runners who participated in the Nike+ Human Race 10K.

Before the concert, the band members talked to the press. A reporter asked Pete Wentz if there was a lot of political talk in his household, especially since his parents met while working for Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden.

“My dad was a Philadelphia lawyer, so there was never an argument won by me my entire life,” Wentz said. Wentz went on to talk about how his dad was excited that Wentz performed at the Democratic National Convention.

“My dad was like, ‘Watch out for Joe Biden—tell him I say hi,’ ” Wentz said. “I was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m going to run into him, Dad.’ “

NBC5 Street Team member Theresa Carter posted great pictures of the Nike+ Human Race HERE!

Nike Human Race 10K took place on Sunday and I/we had the pleasure of covering the event as MEDIA! (read: I got to ask the band good questions in the press conference AND I tried EVERY single cookie in the VIP tent! Oatmeal-raisin was the clear winner.)

A gang of us from the NBC5 Street Team were there… Cara Carriveau hosted the press conference AND also introduced the band on to the stage. Jim Grillo, Theresa Carter and I were there to conduct very serious journalistic reporting… as you can tell.

Fall Out Boy rocked out and you KNOW I just LOVE that they are FROM Chicago!

What’s MY favorite Fall Out Boy song?

Dance, Dance, OF COURSE!

As far as I am concerned, the jury is still out whether Chicago could handle hosting the 2016 Olympics.  However, I came one step closer to “believing” after experiencing the NIKE 10k Human Race with 13, 000 others at Soldier Field on Sunday.  The outside portion of the event was actually produced by Meetinghouse Companies who did a spectacular job with the event production.  It was extremely well laid out for event flow and traffic.  You never once thought that you were “crowded” or “trapped” in a sea of people.  Everyone knew exactly where to go whether you were a runner, press or attendee.  Meetinghouse Companies should be considered when the Olympic Committee chooses an event production team! Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy

I happened to be there as press with fellow NBC 5 Chicago Street Team members, Jen Knoedl, Theresa Carter and Cara Carriveau.  My main responsibility of the day was to video tape Cara Carriveau as she moderated the Fall Out Boy Press Conference as well as her intro of Fall Out Boy for the concert portion.  I ended up also helping Jen Knoedl with her filming as well.   Both videos will be posted by Cara and Jen in a future post.
So…Fall Out Boy – here is the scoop:  A Chicagoan has to be proud to have these young, humble rockers as a claim to fame.  These guys had 13,000 kids screaming for more.  Prior to the concert, they held a press conference which showed their humble youth which brought out the endearing quality that accompanies rock and roll.  Fame caught up with them, but, not too quick to remember their Chicago roots.  It was a pleasure to see and hear them as they played with the crowd as if it was their 1st concert.  Hats off to Fall Out Boy!

It was also nice to run into Bill Rancic of “The Apprentice” and wife Giuliana Rancic of E! Entertainment.  They both seemed genuinely happy to be a part of this spectacular event!  They both actually ran in the race to show true support!  To the both of you “You’re HIRED!”

Nike’s first global race brought together the power of sport and music to inspire and connect runners from every corner of the world.  According to Nike, The Nike Human Race was the world’s biggest one-day running event, bringing together the power of sport and music to inspire and connect runners from every corner of the planet.
