It was pretty exciting for me to find out that two of my favorite bands were playing together last Sunday night at the Charter One Pavilion. The venue itself is surreal providing the artists a large stage with the Chicago skyline in the background. Ratt came out with a blistering set of hard-hitting riffs from Warren DeMartini and teaming up perfectly with a thundering rythym and bass line that sent electricity through everyone’s veins. Lead singer, Stephen Pearcy, who just returned to the band after a ten year plus hiatus, came out on stage with his macho vocals and Rock Star flair (I feel badly for the kids today listening to today’s music scene – they just don’t know what real Rock Stars are). Ratt recently released a compilation best of cd called ‘Tell the World’ and their first ever dvd ‘Videos from the Cellar’ – buy them here.

The Scorpions, who I’ve seen three times, are just a spectacle wonder. I don’t know how five guys can get such a lush, full, clean sound out of their amplifiers and instruments. Rudolf Schenker formed the band in 1965 and they have stayed together this whole time! This rarity in life comes across in their live shows. Go out of your way to see this band perform. They’ve also come out with new cd’s recently – I would personally suggest 2005’s ‘Unbreakable’. Check out here.

I had the fortunate opportunity to hang with both bands after the spectacular show at the House of Blues Foundation Room. This place has an amazing food and beverage program and is such a perfect place to dine before one of their concerts. Lead singer Klaus Meine was celebrating his 60th birthday which is hard to believe after seeing him and his mates on stage kick it like 25 year olds. That’s probably why I like this kind of music so much because of the raw energy it gives off.
