It’s impossible to miss him. Jonny Imerman stands out in a crowd. His bald dome is certainly one differentiator, but Jonny has a warmth and genuineness that automatically makes him the center of attention, particularly in the city’s bars and clubs where posing is an art form.

However, Jonny isn’t simply out there trolling the scene. As the t-shirt he consistently wears will attest, he’s on a constant mission to promote his charity, Imerman’s Angels. Jonny founded Immerman’s Angels after contracting and beating testicular cancer at the young age of 26.
Jonny Imerman
While fighting the disease, he noticed the need for a cancer patient to connect with someone who’s been through the same thing. Imerman’s Angels matches cancer fighters with those who’ve beaten the disease, providing a one-on-one relationship for encouragement from someone who is uniquely familiar with the situation.

Recently, the organization helped match its 1,000th cancer fighter with a survivor, a testament to Jonny’s drive and determination, and the loyal network of volunteers he’s gathered to support him.

Despite the life-and-death seriousness of the subject matter, the method the organization often uses to raise money is a lot of fun. Immerman’s Angels holds some of the best parties in town! But don’t take my word for it, check out their next bash on Saturday night at Lakeshore Athletic Club.

The one thing I always kid Jonny about is the throngs of women constantly surrounding him. But my buddies always remark about how he always makes an effort to introduce each and every person around him to each other. What a guy!

In the past few years that I’ve been writing my sex and dating column, and more recently my blog, I’ve received countless emails and posts asking every type of sex, dating, and relationship question known to man (and woman).  Although I love interacting with the readers, they were just faceless names on the email heading in the vast of cyberspace.  There was no personal interaction.

Now that me and my psychiatrist partner-in-crime, Dr. Paul Dobransky, record our NBC5 podcast “The Fireman and the Shrink,” our listeners connect with us so much that they wish they were in the conversation with us.  Ladies, don’t you wish you could ask any question about sex, dating, and relationships and get a no-holds-barred answer from a male perspective? Well you’re in luck, because now you can!

Me and Dr. Paul will be appearing at JBar (inside the James Hotel, 610 N. Rush) this Thursday June 19th from 7 pm – 8:30pm.  We’ll be answering questions at an open forum of ladies’ sex, dating, and relationship questions, and anything goes!  We’ll also be interviewing and recording some podcasts with any ladies willing to be heard!  And best of all, ladies, you’ll be in good company because the event is being brought to you by GalsGuide.com, THE site women turn to when they have questions about adjusting to life in the big city after college. And although it’s ladies’ night, guys, you’re invited too! It’s gonna be a blast, so hope to see you there!!

After a late night of carousing at my fellow Street Teamer’s birthday party, I’m not sure if I’m up for doing much of anything this weekend besides some quality time on my couch. But that doesn’t mean there’s a shortage of stuff to get into.

Rising Stars Chef Awards

OK, so Monday isn’t technically the weekend, but Antoinette Bruno, the CEO of StarChefs.com, stopped by today to talk about the Rising Stars Chef Awards at the Trump International Hotel and Tower on Monday night.

It’s a walk-around tasting gala featuring signature dishes from each chef, as well as premium wine pairings. Her enthusiasm was infectious. Check out our podcast interview.

Walk & Roll Chicago

I tend to ignore all of those flyers posted throughout the workplace, but on Wednesday a promotion for Walk & Roll Chicago caught my eye. It will be held this Sunday at Grant Park, and is a 5-mile walk, 10-mile skate or 15-mile bike ride to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society.

I’ve decided to participate in the inline skate, even though I’m not exactly in great skate shape (damn you Chicago weather). It’s not too late to get involved, whether you want to participate, or donate. Log on to www.walkroll.org for more information — and pray for me.

Splendour of the Palace

Alhambra Palace is the place to be on Sunday night for the Akira Spring Summer 2008 Fashion Show. There will be live music entertainment and Alhambra’s famous belly dancers!
