Close your eyes and imagine a state of extreme happiness, joy, or dare I say ecstasy? When your senses are engaged it causes a state of pure bliss. For many of us, nothing brings us closer to that euphoric state than a sweet, sugary, cup cake. The first scent of these sugary delights rushes endorphins to your brain and brings back fond memories of childhood. sugarbliss31

“Sugar Bliss” on Wabash, has taken aim at your senses with a devilish assortment of freshly baked cakes of desire. Baked from scratch daily, these mini works of art are as visually appealing as they are delicious! Unlike cupcakes of the past, these cakes feature flavors that range from subtle to sublimely decadent. There are over twenty flavors available, with ten featured daily. Favorites include the sinful red velvet, moist and creamy carrot, and the bright and fresh flavor of orange creamsicle. Nothing is more blissful than chocolate. Cravings will be satisfied with heavenly creations like the chocolate peanut butter and the intoxicating “black & white” (dark chocolate cake/vanilla butter cream). sugarbliss1

Sugar + Cake = Bliss

Theresa Carter, The Local Tourist, NBC Chicago Street Team

Remember that resolution to eat healthier and lose weight? Well, throw that out the window. A new cupcake shop has opened in the Loop.

Teresa Ging displays cupcakes at It's Chic To Be GeekAnother one, you might ask? Well, sort of. Sugar Bliss Cakes has been around for awhile, but there was no retail location so owner Teresa Ging was delivering them herself. Now, her first shop just opened this morning.

Talk about a woman on a mission. Teresa left her career in finance to follow her true passion – all the way to Paris. She attended Le Cordon Bleu Patisserie and then spent eight months testing and tasting. I first heard of her in the fall of 2007 when Jennifer Lane, one of Teresa’s chosen taste-testers (lucky girl) raved about the cupcakes with the signature “blossom” icing. I brought some pumpkin cupcakes with me to a Halloween party that year, where they promptly disappeared.

TLC with Blagica Bottigliero and Teresa Ging at The Apple StoreThis last November Teresa delighted the women at “It’s Chic To Be Geek,” an event for tech-minded women I cohosted with my fellow street-teamer and Gals Guide founder at the Apple Store. All of the women there were clamoring to know when her store would be open.

Well, ladies, and gents, it’s open. Every cupcake is baked fresh daily with natural ingredients, and ten varieties are available per day. Sugar fanatics can get a “shot” of buttercream icing. If you don’t want to throw out those resolutions just yet, get a mini-cupcake.

If you’re outside the Loop Sugar Bliss is still offering delivery and catering.
