“Yes, yes y’all!” This weekend, Chicago is the first stop for two major, national festivals featuring hometown hip-hop heroes:

First up, the Dew Tour, the first ever action sports tour (skateboarding/BMX/Motocross), now in its 5th season. It’s made up of 5 major events that take place in 5 different cities over the course of 5 months (June-Oct.). The Chicago event happens during the day in Grant Park, Friday (6/26) and Saturday (6/27), and features some of the top BMX athletes in the world.

lupedewThe Dew Tour Music Series concert takes place on that Friday at The Chicago Theatre (8pm). Lupe Fiasco is the headliner, Lady Sovereign is the opener, DJ Flipside (of B96) will be spinnin’ and yours truly is the host (yay!).

Also on Saturday (6/27), the 11-city Rock The Bells Festival rolls into town, so you may need to flip a coin or consult a psychic to decide which event to choose. It’s happening at The First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park.

RTBs is the nation’s premier hip-hop music & culture fest, featuring some of the biggestchalipic names in the game. Nas, The Roots, Busta Rhymes and Big Boi of OutKast are all on the bill. Common will represent for Chicago, as will Chali 2na, who rose to fame with LA acts Ozomatli and Jurassic 5, and is now embarking on a solo career. He’ll also rock the House Of Blues around 9pm.

Later that night (10pm), The Roots’ Questlove spins an afterparty at The Marmon Grand Loft, 2230 S. Michigan Ave (props to the homey Mark Fullaflava for puttin’ that together). With so much action-sports and hip-hop royalty in town, no tellin’ who might fall thru.

An interesting thing happened the other day.  A locally based multi-media website dedicated to the Hip-Hop lifestyle called 247hh.com launched an Election ’08 PSA that was meaningful, insightful and even tear jerking at times.  And to garner more exposure for the video, as well as bring local Chicagoans from the world of hip-hop together, they hosted a screening of the film at a lounge in the West Loop’s meat packing district.

Now, of course, the purpose of the screening was to get exposure for their video and motivate people to vote on 11/4 but I would be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to acknowledge the amazing venue where the event was held.  The 247hh Cooler makes you feel like you’ve been transported to the artsier side of the meat packing district.  The walls are covered with paintings by local artist Chad “Wick” Christian, there are two projectors that bounce images off of the exposed brick walls and the hand painted floors in the bathroom, yes I said it… the bathroom, are truly beautiful.

But I digress, because hands down, the show stealer that evening was the remarkable video featuring popular artists from the world of hip-hop such as rappers, The Game, Young Jeezy and Chicago’s own Common, as well as folks from the world of hip hop that are not as recognizable but still have something powerful to say about politics in America.

These types of screening events are something that will be on-going for 247hh.com.  Their goal is to regularly and frequently launch and screen videos with purpose and relevancy to give folks from the world of Hip Hop a platform and invite people from Chicago and beyond to come and view their vids in a group setting.

CHICAGO has been on FIRE lately with all the celebrities in town and hot A-list parties!  I’ve been party hopping so hard this past weekend it took me two days just to recover! And here we go AGAIN!

Rap artist/actor Common definitely knows how to throw a couple of good parties!  From the Friday night kickoff reception inside Cartier to the mega bowling event on Saturday inside 10pin bowling and killer concert HOB! As Common talked with me on the red-carpet Sat. morning he stated how proud and touched he was to have such wonderful sponsors such as Lincoln, Cartier and SnowQueen Vodka be apart and support his charity organization The Common Ground Foundation. But he made it quite clear that he was here to have a good time and he was bowling to win! And from the looks of it he did a pretty good job! Now, everyone else is a whole other story!

Cynthia Fiske store manager of Cartier looked soo cute in her team uniform but her bowling needed umm… a little work, and I’m  certainly not going to mention her gutter balls, oops! Host of Glossed and Found – D. Graham Kostic was being fab and bowled a pretty good game! Jerry Azumah was a character on and off the lanes; he really needs to be a comedian! Common was a complete gentleman shaking hands and taking pictures throughout the entire event while old-school favorite rapper Doug E. Fresh and mega producer Will.I.Am took on a more political tone discussing the 700 billion-dollar failed bailout plan and Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama

And where was I doing all this chaos you ask?! Bowling on the dang best team, lead by N.E.R.D. front man and super producer Pharrell Williams! The team was sponsored by SnowQueen Vodka and we kicked much butt! But truly all the bowling credit goes to the president of SnowQueen Vodka John Montana! You’re the best!

Every Manolo Blahnik clad ladies one and only idol Candace Bushnell made a special appearance at Manor nightclub on Sept. 24th to promote her new book One Fifth Avenue and the NBC new hit show Lipstick Jungle! I adore Candace!

The Oak Street Council and CS Brides rolled out the white carpet on Sunday for their annual wedding walk! The soon to be brides enjoyed music, champagne from Veuve Clicquot, food from Greg Christian/Limelight! Plus some great shopping and a 20lb gift bag worth over $1,000 from places like Juicy Couture, Dismero and Calypso!

Among the many participating boutiques were my personal favorites Vera Wang Chicago, Birch Design Studio, Jimmy Choo and Jennifer Kiefer‘s home Harry Winston! Jennifer was kind enough to give me private V.I.P. tour of Harry Winston and showed me the most fabulous watches I’ve ever seen not to mention the jewels! But more to come later on that! *wink*!
