Shlomi Rabi, NBC5 Street Team

This week began with the celebrations of the Jewish New Year, or as it is known by its more colloquial name “Half-Day at Wall Street”. In its honor, I decided I would come up with a Jewish-oriented list of resolutions for the year 5769 (for those of you who don’t know, the Hebrew calendar did not begin with the incarnation of Jesus but the birth of Joan Rivers. Looking for inspiration, I munched on some shrimp and began my quest. Shockingly, I got nowhere. I then ordered a lobster and pepperoni pizza with a side of live oysters, bacon wrapped cheesesticks and a can of spam while listening to Pavarotti’s “Ave Maria”, but alas, to no avail. I was stumped. It was then that I popped “Passion of the Christ” in the DVD, and it all made sense: being a good Jew means you let the odd goy like Mel Gibson make more money than you and beat you at your own game.

That said, a more popular (and fun, and memorable and need I say it…chic!) way to make yourself feel better is to get your tuches together and head over to the World Fashion Chicago on October 2nd in Millenium Park. (The Maven of all things Fashionable in Chicago, Amanda Hunt, gave it a shout out earlier today.) The lovechild of Chicago Sister Cities, the third annual show promises to showcase the best in couture by designers from Chicago’s very own 27 sister cities, next to hot, local talent. Expect to see sharp and chic new trends set by designers from Shanghai, Milan, Paris, Casablanca, Mexico City, Delhi and Moscow, among others. A pre-show will kick-off the event from 6-7:30p.m. at the Chase Promenade (at Millenium Park), following by the runway show from 7:30-9p.m., to be followed by an after-party at Trump International Hotel & Towers from 9-11p.m. Tickets for all three sell for $100, but mingling with the connoisseurs at the after-party (should that be more to your liking) would only set you back by $25. So don’t even try to find an excuse not to attend, because guilt-tripping is one game at which this Jew. won’t let anyone beat him.
