This dour economy marks the perfect time for comedy, so why not check out some improv from The Belmont Transfer at the Playground tonight, or every Monday night for the month of August? The Playground is located in Lakeview’s Boystown neighborhood, on Halsted and Belmont at 3209 N Halsted. The show is perfect for the unemployed and penny pinchers as entrance costs only$5 per person.
What will you be getting yourself into you might ask? Well, the group’s namesake alone gives us a sneak-peak at what to expect. The Belmont Transfer not only refers to the three-way train change on the red, brown, and purple lines of Chicago’s El trains, but really serves as a metaphor for a more unusual sexual maneuver, defining the group’s adult-savvy improvised humor.
If you can get past the sexual implicitness of above reference, then you’ll be pleased to hear that they just got accepted to the Toronto International Improv Festival (running from September 21-27) and spent the summer performing at iO West in Los Angeles, CA for the 7th Annual LA Improv Festival, as well as at ComedyWorx in Raleigh, NC, for the 3rd Annual i3 Longform Invitational. In Chicago, The BT also performs at The Chemically Imbalanced Theater, Mullen’s Upstairs Lounge, The Spot, Ginger’s Ale House, and Pressure Café. Additionally, the group of seven has trained with the best in the biz — iO Chicago, The Second City, Annoyance, and The Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater in New York.
