Who doesn’t love culture and the arts? The celebration of life’s faceted dramas?

Whether you’re a sophisticated Bernini sculptor lover or a self-proclaimed Blue Man groupie, there’s enough going on in this city to accommodate every taste. But if you want to get one step closer to aficionado status, remember there’s only two more weeks to attend the exciting and educational events at the 19th Annual Chicago Humanities Festival through November 16.

Most folks in the know in Chicago can attest that there’s a ton of events, fundraisers and parties that you can attend on a weekly basis. There’s not nearly enough time to hit them all, so you have to be selective in the events you choose.

You might want to add “Hip Sip” at the W Hotel City Center to your calendar of must-visit events. It’s a themed cocktail party that is quite different from your average soiree.

As Halloween falls on a Friday this year, you may find yourself, as I am, inundated with Halloween party plans. Yay! Treat yourself by extending the celebrations aaaall week. Check out tonight’s screening of Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! at the Music Box Theatre, which opens with a burlesque performance by the fabulous Michelle L’Amour.

After you tire of the old-fashioned house-to-house party hopping on Halloween, filling up on booze AND candy (because you can) head to the racy party Naked: A Leather and Lace Halloween Celebration at Sound Bar. Or, make your way to a lower-key neighborhood celebration at Paddy Long’s “Beeker Must Die” Costume Party. Or head up to the swank Disguise and Deception Halloween Masquerade, featuring ex-Cirque du Soleill member Emie Vega’s performance on aerial silks (off the balcony!). The choices are bountiful, and pretty much just unfair…how to choose??

As Halloween is the day where the veil between the living and the dead becomes most thin, it seems appropriate to mourn the loss of a nostalgic treat.. that’s right, Miller Coors has suddenly announced that they are no longer going to be making the mad dog of beers, ZIMA. Oh, Zima! I totally forgot about Zima!! But now that I won’t be able to have it anymore… like zombies want brains, I suddenly MUST HAVE ZIMA.

Be sure to type “Lodewyck” into the search bar to see my past blogs and segments with Nude Hippo.

Oh, and don’t forget – Thursday is the final day for early voting. Check out this nifty google map of early voting locations.

Last week I posted a blog about the World Pizza Championships held in Italy every year.  It was brought to my attention that there are two different teams in the U.S. that compete for the coveted title.  The team that I referenced in last week’s blog is the  “World Pizza Champions” not the U.S. Pizza Team.  Leo Spizzirri, Executive Chef at Giordano’s, is a member of the “World Pizza Champions”.  The team is led by nine-time pizza champion Tony Gemignani.  The “World Pizza Champions” is touted as America’s #1 Pizza Team.  Hope that clears up any confusion about your favorite pizza team.

Does a place have to be well-known to be any good? How about those hole-in-the-wall joints? Are they worth trying?

Pequod’s Pizza is a hole in the wall if there ever was one. If you’re wondering, what’s up with that name, “Pequod” is actually a fictional whaleship that appears in Moby Dick. Well, step inside Pequod’s and you feel like you’re in someone’s basement, circa 1970s. The small dimensions and wood paneling decor help maintain that retro feel.

True story: I ran into Josh Kelley in the hallway of his hotel and found myself in his hotel room within minutes. Granted, I was at the hotel to emcee a private show with him later — but we had never met and I had no idea I would see him randomly before the show. Since I had my portable recorder with me I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask him for an interview. Next think I knew, I was inside his hotel room chatting away. Yep, it was that easy.

Check out my conversation with Josh Kelley and many of my other interviews at www.CarasBasement.com – like with The Plain White T’s, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Nils Lofgren and more!

By the way, he put on a great show. Catch him perform live if you get the chance!

Last week Sheffield’s held it’s first “Date My Ex, Please” event. Couples not only had the chance to get to know each other at the event, but they could also get the skinny on that person from their ex.

What better way to get the scoop on someone than from their past girlfriend/boyfriend? The only catch is, you have to be willing to offer up your ex, who you’re now friends with, to someone else.
