Trivia question: What are Canada’s two official national sports? If you said hockey, you’re correct. If you also said something like moose hunting, this Canadian will have to slap you upside your head with a bottle of Molson. The answer, is lacrosse.
But you don’t have to travel north to check out this growing sport, because there’s a pro team right in our backyard. The Chicago Machine is wrapping up its third year in our fine city. The team plays its home games at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, the same stadium the Chicago Fire calls home.
I must admit I’ve never seen a live lacrosse game before, but that will change Sunday when the team plays its final game of the season against the dreaded Rochester Rattlers. Game time is 3:30 p.m., and tickets start out as low as $5 for kids, making it a definite family-friendly outing. Unless you’re sitting in the VIP Bud Light Filling Station, which is located directly on the field.
Last week, I got together with a couple of the players so they could show me the ropes — or the sticks — or the balls — or something like that. Anyway, check out Chicagomachine.com for more information.
