Wearing dark black glasses and a red leather coat, reminiscent of the famed “Thriller” jacket, he grasped his signature rhinestone covered microphone and belted out a soulful version of Michael Jackson’s Dirty Diana as two flexible dancers in Lady Gaga-esque attire surrounded him with the sensual movements of their bodies.
Saturday, The Dream performed to a jam-packed audience at Alhambra Palace Restaurant, located at 1240 W Randolph, as a part of The Rising Star Tour.
The tour, sponsored by Grey Goose, is designed to spotlight a group of talented musicians who are climbing their way to icon status. Artists for future tour dates are to include Kid Cudi, Chrisette Michele, Ryan Leslie and Keri Hilson.
The event, which was facilitated by Kenny Johnson Jr. of the Richmond Group, boasted an open bar and attracted some of Chicago’s most influential people including respected music retail vet and innovator, George Daniels.
The Dream performed a number of his chart-topping hits for a crowd of enthusiastic concert-goers, including Fast Car, Shawty Is Da Shit and She Rockin’ That Shit.
Footage from the concert was recorded for future broadcast during a live performance from The Dream on BET.
Although the show was short, sweet and simple, the minimalism of the concert added value to the artistry of the performance and entertained the audience none-the-less.
