Blagica, NBC Street Team (Video)
I enjoy a good, solid wine – but I’m also getting into Scotch. That’s right – Scotch.
Now you may think that a woman shouldn’t be drinking the ‘hard stuff’, but I’ve been growing a larger respect for the whiskies of the world.
Last week, I learned the Whiskey Fest was coming to Chicago. I’ll be attending and getting the 411 on the world of Scotch,Bourbon, single malts, and then some.
The event takes place today at the Hyatt Regency on Wacker. For $95, you’ll enjoy whiskey samples and a buffet.

Blagica,
You mentioned both Wine and Whisky so you had my attention. I too was at Whisky Fest, love wine and have been increasing my fondness for Whiskies. I am one of the partners of The Redhead Piano Bar. We are in our 16th year and going strong. Many people in Chicago are aware that we carry an impressive array of whiskies, but few are aware that we have an even more impressive wine list. (The best of both worlds.) To build awareness for both, we recently started a Spirit series the 1st Tuesday of the month and a Wine series the 3rd Wednesday of the month. As you enjoy both, I invite you down as my guest to try one or both. I ask you to come as a person who enjoys wine and spirits, and not as a member of the NBC Street Team. If you think we have something of interest and want to report about it, I would ask that you come back as a reporter to do so. My rationale is simple – if you come as a reporter, you really can’t enjoy the event to the full extent. You can always come back another time as a reporter if you wish to. If not, I’m sure you will come back as a customer and that is what matters most.
Each event starts at 6:30, are good, interesting and provide good value. The wine series is always $15, focuses of a flight of 3, includes appetizers and an interactive course. We then open a few additional bottles from our cellar, and these are always better than the flight people are paying for. We are not doing this to make money, but rather build awareness of our wine list. The Spirit series currently focuses on Whisky, is priced between $15-$19 depending on what we are focusing on that month, and often includes something extra to sample. The flight includes appetizers and an interactive course as well.
We have a wine pro and a whisky pro for each event who is engaging, knowledgeable and fun. Whether you are a beginner or pro, you will learn something of interest. Our Whisky pro is a wonderful lady and is only one of the two female Diageo whisky ambassadors in North America. (There are more women who like whisky than you might imagine.)
The next Whisky event is April 7th and the next Wine Event is April 15th. At the April 15th event, we will have the Edna Valley wine maker, which will make for an especially unique event.
I hope to see you at one of events at some point.
Sincerely,
Stephen
