Featuring celebrity bartenders, the Chicago Bears’ Robbie Gould, musician Richard Marx, and even the Chicago Police Bagpipers… NBC5′s Anna Davlantes and The Wounded Heroes Foundation host the “Cheers for Heroes” event at Boss Bar tonight.
Last year they raised $150,000 for the Wounded Heroes Foundation, a group dedicated to the individual needs of injured soldiers returning home: be it setting up the necessary financial assistance (a mortgage payment); care packages (as basic as the immediate need for a toiletry kit); or other types of emotional, physical and financial support in the myriad of situations where the military is not able to provide the support needed on the long road to recovery.
Local Marine mom Anna Sherony founded the organization after witnessing those who, unlike her son, were not as fortunate to return home uninjured; and what started out as helping a few individuals has now expanded to assist as many as possible. Even today, Anna still keeps the focus on each individual and the unique support that they require after returning home. In addition to raising funds, tonight’s event hopes to unite local veterans with members of the community.
