The Air & Water Show is cool, but for some it’s a time to find things to do away from the crowds at the lakefront. And I’ve ideas that will have you entertained around town.
The Beta Boutique’s 6th Semi-Annual Stacked Racks Sample Sale is on this weekend in Bucktown. They’ve added men’s clothing to the sale, so fashion savvy gals AND guys can enjoy savings of 40-90% off. Unfamiliar with the Beta Boutique? It’s a year round sample sale featuring local, national, and international designers. They’ve got a large temporary space for the sale, so the racks really must be stacked.

The Lincoln Park Firemen’s Cook-Off is a way to get your BBQ on without stoking up the coals yourself. Engine companies cook up different BBQ’d dishes including steak, pulled pork, and turkey legs. They’ll be competing so expect some good food. There will also be bands, beer, and air show planes flying overhead. This event benefits local firehouses, which ultimately helps the community. Show up hungry!

Music anyone? Local guys and longtime indie rockers, The Saps hit the Beat Kitchen on Saturday. A show-going friend of mine raves about their shows and lately I’ve seen a lot of their t-shirts around town, so it’s definitely worth a check-out.
Some other cool local guys, Goodbye Satellite compete with other bands at the Cobra Lounge on Sunday for an upcoming show sponsored by MTV3. Their Myspace page has them categorized as “rock/tango/punk” – how often can you get your tango with punk and rock from guys coming out of Wrigleyville? Go show your support to get these guys into the MTV3’s “Circo Rockastico” to be held at Metro later in August.
