Trivia question: What are Canada’s two official national sports? If you said hockey, you’re correct. If you also said something like moose hunting, this Canadian will have to slap you upside your head with a bottle of Molson. The answer, is lacrosse.
But you don’t have to travel north to check out this growing sport, because there’s a pro team right in our backyard. The Chicago Machine is wrapping up its third year in our fine city. The team plays its home games at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, the same stadium the Chicago Fire calls home.
I must admit I’ve never seen a live lacrosse game before, but that will change Sunday when the team plays its final game of the season against the dreaded Rochester Rattlers. Game time is 3:30 p.m., and tickets start out as low as $5 for kids, making it a definite family-friendly outing. Unless you’re sitting in the VIP Bud Light Filling Station, which is located directly on the field.
Last week, I got together with a couple of the players so they could show me the ropes — or the sticks — or the balls — or something like that. Anyway, check out Chicagomachine.com for more information.

The Mighty Canuck has never been to a Lacrosse game???
My first (and, sadly, still only) Lacrosse game was the Machine’s season opener. Even though it was chilly, I had a blast and got some great pics (http://tinyurl.com/5erp3s). Have fun!
wow marcus…you manage to do more flirting than I ever would during your interviews with the lacrosse players!
Love the cup question…I’m glad you went there because I certainly would have!
Very well done, Marcus! They really are great guys!
Go, Chicago Machine! Go!
Talk about balls and sticks great start to my morning. Very well done Marcus!
Looks like the lacrosse players have touched a — shall we say, “nerve” with some of you ladies?
Rikki, I would like to think that what I was doing wasn’t flirting, and as for your cup comment… that’s your business!
Colomitalia… ditto.
What happened to the Chicago Shamrox? This girl named Season who was a year younger than me at Stagg high school was a dancer for them. So that was the only reason I’ve really heard of the Shamrox. I guess the outdoor lacrosse franchise is beating the indoor lacrosse franchise in popularity now. The Shamrox play (or maybe used to play) their games at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates
